Xiaopeng Motors launches China’s most powerful EV

Xiaopeng Motors launched its first ready-to-sell electric car at the CES 2018 in Las Vegas. Xpeng expanded its fleet with a revolutionary smart car, suitable for mass production. Available for sale in the spring of 2018, the vehicles will be targeting a younger demographic, with a “geek” lifestyle, that includes an attitude of both exploration and innovation. Correspondingly, the model is called G3, whereby “G” symbolises geek, while “3” stands for the car’s category.

Cutting edge exterior design

Xpeng’s G3 was designed with sharpness and aggressiveness. The exterior design consists of a curvature of LED headlights, forming a pointed edge, as well as a sharp front lip, creating a grille-free front resembling a shark. The G3 has additional red brake calipers, a suspension roof, spoiler, one-piece diamond matrix tail lights, and other design elements indicating aggressiveness.

It is the fist smart car equipped with an Italian panoramic windshield, providing unlimited overview of the horizon from inside. The panoramic windshield was designed in such a way, so as to make drivers feel like sitting in a spaceship cabin.

Revolutionary interior features

In addition to its unique exterior design, the G3’s interior features revolutionary equipment. The car has the first 360-degree roof camera and a large HD touch screen. The 360-degree panoramic camera on the roof allows drivers to capture, save and share their pictures and videos, while driving from any location.

The standard version of the driver’s seat has a 12.3-inch full HD LCD panel and a 15.6-inch ultra-wide HD touch screen. The central console integrates music, navigation, real-time weather applications and vehicle status control. The console is positioned to lean slightly toward the driver, enabling easy access to voice control and other functions.

Moreover, G3 has the most advanced self-driving hardware available in China and a customised camera structure suitable for the Asian driving environment. It is equipped with 2 front-facing cameras, 2 side cameras, 4 panoramic cameras, 3 millimetre-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars and 2 smart cameras inside the cockpit. With 25 sensors contained inside, the G3 is undoubtedly the most powerful self-driving vehicle among all Chinese manufacturers.

G3’s innovative features are dependent on over-the-air cloud connectivity. Its cloud service enables drivers to remotely download and upgrade various official Xpeng applications. The app also provides remote control of the car’s doors and windows, air conditioning and security system.

Electric car with a “geek spirit”

According to Xpeng’s Chairman, He Xiaopeng, the company’s goal is to explore ans share the “geek spirit”, through fast iterations and executive ability. Xpeng Motors has already received the China Compulsory Certification by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in July 2017. The company released its first production car in October 2017, while Xiaopeng drove the first plated Xpeng car on Beijing’s public roads in December.

From version 1.0 to the debut of G3 at CES, Xpeng Motors has always demonstrated our strength through fast iterations and executive ability. Compared to traditional car makers, smart car makers are still quite young. We are in awe of traditions, but we dare to explore; we pursue speed, but we stay pragmatic. This is why Xpeng Motors and its users are attracted to each other and share the ‘geek spirit’ together.
